RMBIO produces US origin iron supplemented calf serum for use in cell culture media. Iron is essential for cell respiration and metabolism; cells cannot survive or proliferate without it. Supplementing calf serum with iron not only increases iron concentrations, but also maximizes delivery of iron to proliferating cells by transferrin, enabling the serum to bind three to four times more iron than Fetal Bovine Serum. The result is cell growth rates comparable to FBS at a fraction of the cost, making iron fortified calf serum an ideal FBS alternative.
