DMEM F-12 is a 1:1 mixture of Dulbecco's Modified Eagle's Medium (DMEM) and Ham's F-12 Nutrient Mixture (Ham's F-12). Widely used as a basal medium, DMEM F-12 combines DMEM’s high amino acid, glucose, and vitamin concentrations with growth factors and hormones found in Ham’s F-12. The result is an ideal medium capable of culturing a variety of cell lines.

DME-BBZ-XXX-003 contains 365 mg/L L-glutamine and 15mM HEPES to compensate for the loss of buffering capacity incurred by eliminating serum. Important considerations when selecting a nutrient medium are: cell type, culture type (i.e., monolayer, suspension, clonal), and the degree of chemical definition necessary. It is important to review literature for recommendations concerning medium type, required supplementation, and physiological parameters required for a specific cell line.

Storage/Stability

The liquid medium should be stored at 2-8°C and stay away from direct sunlight. Deterioration of the liquid medium may be recognized by:

(1) Precipitate or particulate matter throughout the solution

(2) Cloudy appearance

(3) Color change

(4) pH change

The nature of supplements added may affect storage conditions and shelf life of the medium. Product label bears expiration date.
